FNV Migrant Domestic Workers Union is an affiliate of the Federation of Dutch Trade Unions (Federatie Nederlandse Vakbeweging or FNV) the biggest trade union federation in The Netherlands. Its members are migrants from countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America who perform domestic work for a living.
In The Netherlands, domestic work is not recognized as real work like any other. Thus, we do not enjoy the labor rights and social protection enjoyed by other workers in other sectors of the economy. In addition, many of us have been working and living in The Netherlands for many years now without legal papers.
Our aim:
- For the Dutch government to recognize domestic work as real work by ratifying the ILO Convention 189 on decent work for domestic workers and enacting a law to implement its provisions.
- For the Dutch government to grant working and stay permits to migrant domestic workers who have been working for many years in the country contributing to the general welfare of Dutch society.
